Distinguish between the characteristics of urban and rural environments
Explain the geographical requirements that determine location of businesses and transportation and make predictions about future locations
Produce a set of criteria for identifying regions
Human-Environment Interactions
Demonstrate an understanding of how human activities affect the environment
Demonstrate an understanding of how natural systems influence cultural and economic activities
Understanding and Managing Change
Demonstrate an understanding of selected factors that cause change in human and natural systems
Predict the consequences of human activities on natural systems
Methods of Geographic Inquiry
Demonstrate an understanding of the methods used to collect, organize, manipulate and interpret geographic data
Select and use appropriate technology to present geographic information
Use different types of maps to interpret geographic relationships including changes over time in a specific location

Geographic Foundations: Space and Systems
Differentiate among the major rock types and explain their origins
Analyze relationships between present characteristics of local landforms and the processes that shaped them
Human-Environment Interactions
Demonstrate an understanding of the effects of human activities on various aspects of the environment
Analyze damage and casualty risks related to flooding in selected areas and identify factors that increase risk
Identify postglacial features in the Ontario landscape and explain how people have derived benefits from them
Understanding and Managing Change
Describe the difference between human and geologic time scales
Analyze changes in land use in their local area over the past 20 years and the effects of these changes on the population and the environment
Methods of Geographic Inquiry
Use remote sensing imagery, maps, global positioning systems and geographic information systems to measure conditions on the ground
Produce reports summarizing field experiments conducted to obtain quantitative and qualitative data about a local area
